On the occasion of the15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, held in Abidjan, the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, through the National Climate Change Program (PNCC), organized the National Seminar on Adaptation to Climate Change (SENACC) from May 16 to 19, 2022.
With the overall objective of "Promoting climate change adaptation solutions among researchers, academics, and the private sector," SENACC welcomed the participation of Mr. PATRICE ADAYE, Founder & President, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AGRO-MAP SAS, in the panel discussion on the theme "Levers for increasing the involvement of local actors and the private sector in low-carbon initiatives" in the presence of his partner aDryada on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.
His presentation focused on "Innovations in forest management and climate resilience." Mr. PATRICE ADAYE presented Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) through agroforestry, community reforestation, agroecology, mangrove restoration, and community actions related to environmental preservation as essential levers for forest management. Not to mention the Forest Project Management (FPM) software developed by AGRO-MAP, which is a major innovation and a tool for monitoring agroforestry and reforestation projects.
The Director General then concluded his speech with the following points:
- Desertification is a reality throughout the world in general and in Côte d'Ivoire in particular;
- Several initiatives are being taken by governments. In Côte d'Ivoire, the public and private sectors have committed to combating desertification.
- Climate financing through voluntary carbon credits exists. It represents a real opportunity that must be seized in order to reverse the climate trend.
Looking ahead, he calls on the government to take measures to ensure that Ivorian regulations facilitate access to financing for forestry projects and private sector investment.
