Communities and forests - what to do?

To support the government's efforts and respond to increased deforestation in Côte d'Ivoire, a number of companies in the cocoa industry, including TOUTON Négoce Côte d'Ivoire, have pledged to contribute to the reconstitution of Côte d'Ivoire's forest cover. To this end, TOUTON SA has initiated the PES AND COMMUNITY FOREST MANAGEMENT PROJECT to promote agroforestry in cocoa farming and community reforestation.

In its implementation phase, an awareness-raising caravan and forest and fruit tree planting were organized by the AGRO-MAP SAS team (technical implementation partner) on the themes of Agroforestry, community reforestation, the forestry code and tree ownership. This caravan took place in the localities of Soubré, San-Pedro, Méagui, Guiglo, Man, Kouibly, Agboville and Grand-Lahou, in the presence of Prefectoral authorities, Regional Directors and Cantonnement Chiefs of Water and Forests of the localities visited, TOUTON SA representatives, village chiefs and community leaders.

In each locality, over 600 young people, women and children took part in the awareness-raising activities and committed themselves to the success of the project.
