As part of the implementation of the agreement between the Ministry of Water and Forests, AGRO-MAP and aDryada to rehabilitate degraded areas and conserve the biodiversity of 70,000 hectares of the Haut-Sassandra classified forest, a workshop was held this Thursday, November 03, 2022 in Daloa to present the results of the inventory studies of the Haut-Sassandra classified forest.
Chaired by the Prefect of the department of Zoukougbeu, representing the Prefect of the Haut-Sassandra Region, the aim of the workshop was to present, six (06) months after the project launch workshop and the baseline studies, the diagnostic results of the floristic, faunal, socio-anthropological, agro-economic and cartographic studies carried out by experts, to propose management orientations in order to gather the opinions and proposals of stakeholders for the drafting of a Participatory Management Plan for the classified forest of Haut-Sassandra.
The workshop was attended by over one hundred (100) people, including the prefectoral corps of the Daloa, Zoukougbeu and Vavoua departments; local elected officials from the region; executives and agents from the Ministry of Water and Forests; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the Consul General of Burkina Faso; the Jean Lorougnon Guédé University in Daloa; village chiefs from the outskirts of the classified forest; and representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development; the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development; the Consul General of Burkina Faso; the Jean Lorougnon Guédé University of Daloa; village chiefs on the outskirts of the classified forest; religious guides; civil society; community leaders; and the heads of farms located in the forest.
In his speech, Colonel-Major Kouassi Lucien, Deputy Director General of Forests and Wildlife, on behalf of the Ministry of Water and Forests, reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Water and Forests to support the Karidja project implementation process, as it is aligned with the Forest Preservation, Rehabilitation and Extension Strategy.
Colonel Major Aboa Dogui, Technical Advisor to the Minister, representing the Minister of Water and Forests, invited stakeholders, and particularly beneficiary communities, to take ownership of the project and maintain a climate of peace to guarantee the socio-economic development of the Daloa region.
Following the presentation of the inventory, the forest management proposals and the discussions, the Prefect of Zoukougbeu praised the participatory and inclusive approach of AGRO-MAP and its partner aDryada.
Faced with the alarming results presented by the experts, particularly those relating to the high level of degradation of the Haut-Sassandra classified forest, he urged the communities, the primary beneficiaries of this unique project, to take full ownership of its content and seize the opportunity offered by AGRO-MAP SAS and aDryada's Participatory Management Plan for the Haut-Sassandra classified forest.
