PARTICIPATORY MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE HAUT-SASSANDRA CLASSIFIED FOREST ADOPTED

KARIDJA project stakeholders adopt the management plan for the Haut-Sassandra classified forest (FCHS) at the workshop organized by the Ministry of Water and Forests (MINEF) and its partners, AGRO-MAP and aDryada, this Thursday, MARCH 30, 2023 in Daloa, under the chairmanship of the Prefect of the Department of Zoukougbeu, representing the Prefect of the Region of Haut-Sassandra and the Department of Daloa.

The workshop was attended by over one hundred and fifty (150) people, including the prefectoral corps of the Departments of Daloa, Zoukougbeu and Vavoua; local elected officials from the region; executives and agents from the Ministry of Water and Forests; SODEFOR; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development; ANADER; Jean Lorougnon Guédé University in Daloa; the Consul General of Burkina Faso; village chiefs on the outskirts of the classified forest; religious leaders; NGOs; community leaders and farm managers in the Haut-Sassandra classified forest.

Adopted unanimously by the stakeholders, by acclamation of all participants, the Prefect of the Zoukougbeu Department expressed his satisfaction with the work carried out by the teams from AGRO-MAP, aDryada and the Ministry of Water and Forests in drawing up this management plan, to be implemented over the period 2023 - 2032. He invited all participants, and in particular the Local Participatory Management Committees (Comités Locaux de Gestion Participative) which were set up as part of the rehabilitation of the FCHS on January 18, 2023, to take ownership of the KARIDJA project.

This management plan covering 104,091 ha of the FCHS is the result of studies carried out by AGRO-MAP following the project's launch workshop on April 21, 2022, following the signing of a tripartite agreement between the State of Côte d'Ivoire, through the MINEF, AGRO-MAP and aDryada, covering the rehabilitation and biodiversity conservation of 70,000 ha of the FCHS.

This adoption workshop follows on from a previous workshop held on Thursday, November 03, 2022 to review the results of the FCHS inventory.

The development and adoption of this management plan followed a participatory and inclusive approach, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
