Information on the general framework of the position
AGRO-MAP is an Ivorian company that develops forest restoration, mangrove and biodiversity conservation projects that generate carbon credits through nature-based solutions. It implements sustainable development projects that have a socio-economic impact on small-scale agricultural and forestry producers in order to improve their resilience to the effects of climate change. AGRO-MAP is recruiting a Community Development Manager to implement its Program for the Rehabilitation of Degraded Areas and Biodiversity Conservation of 70,000 hectares of the Haut-Sassandra Classified Forest.
Missions:
- Plan and organize the identification and census of producers;
- Carry out a diagnosis, then lead and support stakeholders and communities to define community development projects;
- Collaborate with the authorities and technical services to define the community development strategy by integrating the communities;
- Develop and update community profiles;
- Organize and run information and awareness-raising sessions to strengthen the involvement of communities, professional groups and local players in implementing the program in order to promote social cohesion and the creation of job opportunities;
- Facilitate understanding of the program in its operational area;
- Facilitating social inclusion, particularly in terms of gender and youth;
- Ensure the establishment and operation of community structures;
- Ensure the development and implementation of Community Action Plans (CAPs) in the communities;
- Coordinate, animate and network community players through collective and participative actions to improve and promote shared governance of the Program;
- Program and supervise community development activities;
- Identify training needs for members of community structures and develop associated training plans;
- Train, guide and support community structures;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a monitoring and evaluation system (indicators, tools, etc.) for the program, which will make it possible to demonstrate the results of interventions in terms of integration and participation of community stakeholders, and to take corrective action if necessary;
- Monitor the implementation of the plan to strengthen the technical and organizational capacities of the community structures created under the program;
- Ensure periodic monitoring of community activities in the field;
- Carry out any other duties as assigned.
Professional and hierarchical links :
The Community Development Manager reports directly to the Program Coordinator.
Location :
The community development officer will spend a large part of the mission in a living base on the outskirts of the Foret Classée du Haut Sassandra :
- With frequent meetings at the Daloa office to ensure follow-up and coordination with other members of the project team;
- With monthly missions to AGRO-MAP headquarters in Abidjan for meetings to plan and monitor program activities.
Profile
Training :
University degree (BAC + 3/4/5) in social and economic sciences or a related discipline, with a minimum of five (05) years' professional experience in community development.
Experiences :
- Have between 3 and 5 years of proven professional experience in the promotion of livelihoods and income-generating activities related to conservation and in the field of community financing aimed at environmental preservation within a project/program;
- Have three (03) years of professional experience in the development, validation, financing, monitoring of implementation and sustainability of Community Action Plans (CAP),
- Three (03) years' professional experience in program management: project design, budget management, activity reporting and project monitoring and evaluation,
- Two (02) years' experience in capacity building for local communities and organizations,
- Experience of working with state actors, in particular local authorities, regional authorities, the coffee-cocoa council, as well as non-state actors such as cooperatives and non-state development funds.
Specific skills :
- Excellent knowledge of recovery and development practices, particularly with regard to economic activities and the analysis and development of agricultural value chains;
- Knowledge of animation and community development in rural and urban areas;
- Good knowledge of the cocoa industry and experience in forestry-related activities;
- Good communication skills, including in local language(s);
- Good knowledge of the socio-economic and land tenure context of the localities in the project intervention regions would be an asset;
- Good knowledge of the context of the fight against deforestation;
- Proven ability to work with a multicultural and multidisciplinary team;
- Knowledge and mastery of adult training methods and techniques;
- Good strategic thinking and planning skills;
- Ability and willingness to work in a team ;
- Have a spirit of initiative and an excellent ability to communicate with different stakeholders;
- Ability to work in rural, community and multicultural environments;
- Flexibility, adaptability and organizational skills;
- Mastering MARP ;
- Ability to manage conflicts, complaints and knowledge of climate change issues;
- Meeting deadlines and schedules ;
- ABCD category license required;
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Ms-Project, Outlook), collaborative tools (google drive, one drive) and communication tools (Skype, Teams, Zoom, etc.).
Language skills
- Fluency in written and spoken French required;
- Knowledge of local languages (Gnamboua, Baoulé, Malinké) desirable.
Conditions of employment:
- Position to be filled: October 15, 2022 ;
- Type of contract: Fixed-term contract (CDD) ;
- Contract duration: 12 months renewable ;
- Confirmation of contract: at the end of a three (03) month trial period.
