
BACKGROUND
To support the efforts of the Ivorian government and provide a response to increased deforestation, cocoa industry companies ETG and the NGO Beyond Beans, with the support of their chocolate partners FERRERO and NESTLE, have committed to contributing to the reconstitution of Ivorian forest cover through a reforestation project. The project aims to set up reforestation plots in communities located in the cocoa supply basin.
OBJECTIVES
The overall aim of the project is to reforest 90 ha by the end of 2021 in the Haut-Sassandra and Marahoué regions, in communities belonging to the CAEEV Vavoua, CAED, SPAD Daloa and COVIMA Bouafle cocoa cooperatives, in order to create the conditions for sustainable agriculture to meet their needs.
- Produce and deliver 99,990 forest tree seedlings to project communities.
- Set up 90 ha of community plots with banana trees.
- Raise community awareness of environmental preservation, reforestation, the new forestry code and tree ownership.
- Monitor plots.
RESULTS
- 13 communities sensitized to environmental preservation, reforestation, the new forestry code and tree ownership.
- Production and supply of 100,000 forest and fruit seedlings.
- 90 hectares of community plots reforested.
- Plant monitoring carried out.
