
BACKGROUND
To support the Ivorian government's efforts to combat increased deforestation, cocoa industry companies ETG and the NGO Beyond Beans, with the support of their chocolate partners FERRERO and NESTLE, have pledged to help restore Ivorian forest cover through a community reforestation project. The project aims to create reforestation plots in communities located in cocoa supply basins.
OBJECTIVES
The overall aim of the project is to promote community reforestation in ETG/BEYOND BEANS cocoa supply areas.
- Generating community interest in the preservation and restoration of forest ecosystems
- Making fruit and forest tree seedlings available
- Contribute to improving forest cover through community reforestation
- Strengthening community resilience to the effects of climate change
EXPECTED RESULTS
- More than 30 communities in the project areas are sensitized to environmental preservation, reforestation, the new forestry code and tree ownership.
- More than 200,000 forest and fruit seedlings are produced
- Approximately 200 hectares of community plots are reforested
