BACKGROUND
French chocolatier CEMOI has launched a sustainability program called "TRANSPARENCE CACAO CEMOI", which aims to develop a financial, technical and social environment capable of contributing to the emergence of entrepreneurs and rural businesses capable of marketing quality cocoa that respects the ecological environment.
As part of this sustainability program, training/awareness-raising sessions on the new forestry policy were organized for the managers of 58 CEMOI partner cooperatives. Following these sessions, CEMOI, in conjunction with the trained cooperatives, wanted to get closer to cocoa-producing communities by organizing awareness-raising sessions for producers. AGRO-MAP, a company specializing in agroforestry issues, was commissioned to carry out this mission.
OBJECTIVES
The aim of the awareness-raising sessions is to encourage producer members of CEMOI's partner cooperatives to promote agroforestry and good agricultural practices for sustainable cocoa production, and to familiarize them with the new forestry provisions, notably the new forestry code and tree ownership.
RESULTS
- Seven (7) awareness sessions organized.
- Over 3,000 producers reached.
- 9,950 plants distributed to growers.
