BACKGROUND
In view of the need to combat the effects of climate change on the sustainability of cocoa, Mondelez International is developing its "Cocoa Life" program, which is based on three pillars:
(i) help protect and restore forests,
(ii) promote more sustainable cocoa production by improving farmers' livelihoods,
(iii) Involving communities and fostering social inclusion.
These projects involve supporting Cocoa Life producers and their communities by implementing ambitious agroforestry models based on national best practices and recommendations, in order to contribute to the national forest cover restoration strategy.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Improve cocoa productivity and reduce deforestation in its supply chain, to help strengthen the resilience of producers and communities to climate change.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Bringing compliance of cocoa plots in the supply chain supply chain to ARS-1000 standard;
- Train and support supply chain cooperatives in good agricultural practices;
- Promote zero-deforestation agriculture through awareness-raising and training in agroforestry;
- Rupporting and increasing the livelihoods of Cocoa Life producers, through Payments for Environmental Services (PES) linked to their performance;
EXPECTED RESULTS

The Mondelez supply chain's cocoa plots comply with Mondelez supply chain to ARS-1000 standard;

The supply chain cooperatives are trained and supported in good agricultural practices;
- The promotion of zero-deforestation agriculture through awareness-raising and training in agroforestry is provided;
- The Cocoa Life producers' livelihoods are strengthened and enhanced by a payment for environmental services (PES) linked to their performance;
