BACKGROUND
The disappearance of mangroves in Côte d'Ivoire is linked to overexploitation and various types of extraction, destruction in favour of urban and agricultural expansion and infrastructure development. These man-made pressures are compounded by the effects of global change, which include the closure of passes linking lagoons to the marine environment, flooding and coastal erosion, all of which weaken the resilience of mangroves. This observation calls for responses to the challenges of conserving and sustainably managing these ecosystems. With this in mind, the ATLANTIC GROUP FOUNDATION, with the technical support of AGROMAP, is planning to set up a mangrove restoration and preservation project in the ASSINIE area.
