
BACKGROUND
In Côte d'Ivoire, ZAMACOM SA is committed to implementing the Cocoa and Forest Initiative (CFI) Action Plan. ZAMACOM SA sets up demonstration plots with grower members and volunteers from its partner cooperatives, who are committed to sustainability programs. The aim of these demonstration plots is to ensure sustainable cocoa production for producers, while contributing to the reconstitution of forest cover. AGRO-MAP implements awareness-raising, training and coaching activities for producers and their organizations, as well as setting up agroforestry systems on cocoa farms.
OBJECTIVES
The overall aim is to set up demonstration plots of agroforestry systems in ZAMACOM SA's partner cooperatives.
- Train technicians and relay producers on climate change-related issues.
- Map demonstration plots.
- Signposting cocoa-based agroforestry demonstration plots.
- Install signs to mark out demonstration plots
RESULTS
- 81 plots converted to sustainable agroforestry systems.
- Over 100 agronomists, technicians and relay producers trained in agroforestry, cocoa-based agroforestry systems, the new forestry code and tree ownership.
- Sensitized cocoa farmers adopt agroforestry on their plantations as a credible alternative for sustainable cocoa production.
