Village land delimitation project

BACKGROUND

As part of its efforts to secure rural areas and prevent land conflicts, Reforest'Actionhas joined forces with the Ivorian company AGROMAP to set up a project for the to set up a project for the materialization of village boundaries in the ME region, and more specifically in the locality of Adzopé.
This project is a continuation of the delimitation work undertaken by the Agence Foncière Rurale (AFOR), with a view to consolidating local land governance and promoting sustainable management of natural resources.
The materialization of boundaries through the planting of forest trees meets a twofold challenge: to reinforce the physical visibility of village boundaries and contribute to the restoration of forest cover. This project, carried out in collaboration with local communities, also aims to promote social cohesion between neighbouring villages, while enhancing the value of local species with high ecological potential.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The aim of the project is to help secure land tenure and restore forest cover by planting living hedges to demarcate village boundaries.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Identify and validate village boundaries already established by AFOR in consultation with local stakeholders ;
Produce and make available forest seedlings adapted to the materialization zones;
Raise community awareness of the importance of materializing and protecting installed plants;
Set up a local plant monitoring and maintenance mechanism to ensure the sustainability of the action ;

EXPECTED RESULTS

The limits of 11 village territories were identified and validated in collaboration with local communities and AFOR ;
A total of 19 000 forest seedlings were produced and planted along the ;
The beneficiary communities were trained in planting, maintenance and plant protection techniques;
Improved social cohesion and dialogue have been observed between neighbouring villages;
A local monitoring committee has been set up in each village to ensure the sustainability of the project's achievements;
